Endre Rozsda: Rozsda’s Early Paperworks April 21, 2009 - May 23, 2009

Várfok Gallery is planning an extraordinary series of exhibitions from the 21st April 2009 in remembrance of Endre Rozsda (1913-1999) painter, died 10 years ago. The former pupil of Aba-Novák, André Breton’s friend, was a charter member of the European School (1945-48), one of the most important art movement of the Hungarian 20th century art. The aim of this series is to make widely-known the name of this unworthy forgotten artist and to give an insight to the oeuvre for the visitors.
The events will take place all together in four locations in Várfok street to show the public, between 21st April and 23rd May 2009, Rozsda’s early and late paintings, drawings and water-colours which were never presented in his homeland before. In Várfok Hall his early paperworks made between 1935 and 1955 are to be shown, while in XO Hall one can discover his very special surrealist paintings from after World War II. On the occasion of this series of exhibitions in remembrance of Rozsda, Várnegyed Gallery joins Várfok Gallery’s series: here an exhibition will open presenting a selection of his early works. From April, an exhibition giving an extensive notion of Rozsda’s oeuvre is to be seen on the glass panels of the open-air Gallery 19. Completing the exhibitions, portait films will be permanently projected in Várnegyed Gallery during the opening hours. And for those, who wish to immerse in Rozsda’s special surrealist world, guided tours are organised on Saturday afternoons.
We are pleased to invite you on Tuesday 21st April  2009, at 6 p.m. to the vernissage of the series of exhibitions in Várfok Gallery’s XO-Hall. The exhibitions will be opened by Gábor Pataki art historian.
