Fatime Dobribán Far Away February 10, 2005 - March 12, 2005

"...rather then relieving inner oppositions, the human being is "programmed" to reconcile the irreconcilable with spiritual maneuvers. ("…)” (László Halász: Lookalike "– The Dual Character of Man. Scientia Humana, Bp. 1992)

To resolve daily insignificant or serious conflicts I often find myself wanting to grab my non-existent sword and fight for my right. In reality it is exactly the opposite of this which I long for: life without pointless rows and fights, i.e. complete serenity, the lost state of the Garden of Eden. I often feel as if I had nothing in common with my surroundings, my daily routines and errands, even with myself. But surely, many people feel the same. Although the works presented in the exhibition appear to be about two separate issues, it is this yearning that connects them. There is neither the possibility for pure struggle or for existence in an ideal world; only in a deformed form is it possible.
A 1-2 week long dream trip or reading magazines frequently can transport us, enlightened city dwellers to beautiful places, but of course it’s only an illusion, upon returning everything starts all over again.
It’s nice to be far away in both space and time from reality "– of course only in thought. This is what I have been playing for a long time now, and I continue to do so.
