Várfok Gallery’s other season opening exhibition presents the new works of Levente Herman (1976, Târgu-Mureş). The Transylvanian artist is one of the founders of  Élesd Art Colony and the most recent and young artist of Várfok Gallery. Since 2007 his works have been regularly appearing on group exhibitions in Várfok street and abroad (Brussels, Paris, London, Vilnius). His second solo exhibition in Várfok Gallery introduces the series entitled Zone. It is typical of Levente Herman to conceive in series, to analyse a theme from all different sides and to step over it by finding a new object of interest. Even so there is still a connection, a transit-like aspect between his series. This is what gives a kind of entity, a cyclical aspect to his works so far. The bare, desertic landscape appearing on some of the pictures of the Zone series, full of debris, thrown away objects and junk reminds us of the desolated scenes of the series New Paradise Project or Adam and Eve. New motives show up at the same time, more precisely a new attribute: the nursing bottle, which can be interpreted as the transformation of the mug, a motive regularly appearing previously on his pictures. The paintings of the Zone series have a surrealistic atmosphere. The spectator feels shriveled between the huge nursing bottles, oscillating between tale and reality. But this fable is not filled with fairies and good magic, but the atmosphere is gloomy and spectral, based on the distortion of reality. It’s the encountering of the puerile world and the depraved civilization. These pictures also implicate the child’s endless desire of discovering, the attraction of the children towards the unknown, further more the realization, the honest research and the game. Referring to the artist the essence and the aim of this series is precisely the game. The sudden apparition of the child related motives is not accidental since Levente Herman has the opportunity as a fresh father to get a close insight into this world, wich obviously seems to be a rich source of inspiration.
