The work of Akos Czigany (1972, b. Budapest) is characterised by a blend of documentary, conceptual and abstract approaches. Akos Czigany’s new series ’Speculum’, ’Replica’ and ’Self-Portrait’ presented at the Várfok Gallery explore the boundaries of vision. Painterly structures of mirrors without reflections, ethereal worlds of lifelike artificial eyes and monochrome fields of dissected telephone screens offer the most recent evidence of Czigany’s analytical mind, masterful thought processes and philosophical world. As usual, Czigany transcends traditional boundaries of photography, placing momentary objects in a new context and creating a unique visuality in his work.
Akos Czigany graduated from the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE in 1995 and is a member of the Association of Hungarian Photographers. In 2010, he won the renowned Lucien Hervé and Rodolf Hervé Prize for his series ’Skies’. He has also been awarded 3rd prize in the International Photography Awards and the 2nd and special prizes in the international photography competition FRAME011 held by the Leica Gallery in Prague.
In recent years, Czigany’s works have been shown in numerous prestigious solo and group exhibitions in Hungary and abroad, including at institutions such as the Hungarian National Gallery, Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Centre, Mai Manó House of Photography, the Hungarian Museum of Photography in Kecskemét, Museum im Kulturspeicher in Würzburg, Galerie BRAUBACHfive in Frankfurt and Galleria Parmeggiani – Musei Civici Reggio Emilia in Italy.
This exhibition is sponsored by the National Cultural Fund.
