Károly Keserü: thirtynine
Új Kriterion Gallery, Mircurea-Ciuc (RO)
30th July 2020 – 25th August 2020
Károly Keserü’s exhibition entitled thirty nine presents an exciting selection of the artist’s recent pictures, and borrows its title from a special, always-recurring number which has played an important role in the artist’s life since he was a child. An interesting feature of this exhibition is that it can be regarded as a blend of two other individual exhibitions organised this year. As far as the title (39) is concerned, it resembles the London exhibition, while the artworks created exclusively on paper take the views back to the exhibition organised in the Várfok Gallery, Budapest. Born in Budapest in 1962, the artist emigrated to Australia in 1987, where he studied fine arts at Swinburne University and the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne. After being awarded one of Australia’s most prestigious scholarships on fine art, the Samstag, in 2000 he continued his studies at the Saint Martin’s College of Arts in London where he obtained the MA degree.
