These ‘Lake’ paintings, from the most recent period of the artist's landscapes, were made in Thailand and are visual realisations of aatoth’s direct experience of lush vegetation and colourful rain-drenched flora bordered by lakes and rivers. The paintings reflect the artist’s intimate coexistence with the natural environment. The natural surroundings of aatoth’s studio in the jungle become an intrinsic part of his art. His landscapes are not representations of Nature in a classical sense, but are part of a meditative, spiritual practice painted in isolation in a monastery in Thailand. They are testimony to the experience of a geographical retreat, where the deepest journey can be made without covering a single metre. The exhibited works look back at the imagery of primordial elements which pervaded earlier times, the water as a source motif, the lush depiction of Nature's hidden paths. The paintings open up a new language of form and herald a new artistic era. The viewer is led into the intensity of the deep greens of the resurgent rainforest with reflections in the fresh surface of the Lakes as central motifs.
