“László Szotyory’s (b. 1957, Cluj-Napoca/RO) career as a painter started in parallel with the ’new painting’ movement. Even during his college years he was already painting episodic, figurative scenes. In his art – looking back over his four-decade career – the motifs, popular themes, attractive and easily identifiable objective references are woven into pictorial narratives with rapid, dynamic gestures and the movements of layers of paint sliding into each other, while the artist’s melancholic, bucolic and very contemporary outlook on life, his passion for beauty, glimmers through from behind the incandescent green and midnight blue layers.” – Éva Mónika Horváth
