About the works

Ákos Czigány is a prominent, recognized figure of the Hungarian contemporary photography scene. In 2010 he won the renowned Lucien Hervé and Rodolf Hervé-prize with his Skies – hommage á Hiroshi Sugimoto series and also the third prize of the International Photography Awards. In 2011 he was awarded both the second and special prize at the Prague-based Leica Gallery’s FRAME011 international photography contest. The photographs of Czigány are characterized by the beauty of pure and precise geometrical forms and compositions, which are influenced by the Bauhaus and the Hungarian constructivist traditions. In all of his series we may see that the centre of his interest is on one hand, the light and on the other hand, the empty, blank space – opposed to its’ environment.
