13-16th February, 2020
We are delighted to announce The Várfok Gallery’s participation at the Art KARLSRUHE 2020 International Art Fair where among more than 200 exhibiting galleries, our gallery will present its artists in the second hall (Halle 2) E11 stand.
The highlight of this year’s stand will be a special selection of works from the 98-year-old Françoise Gilot, which includes an extraordinary piece — the ‘Oriental City I’ from 1977.
The painting career of Françoise Gilot is a story of triumph. Her oeuvre has taken a long time to receive its due appreciation. She has had to prove herself as an artist on many occasions until she was finally able to shrug off the label of “Picasso’s muse” and establish herself professionally as a first-class artist in her own right. Her works are in numerous worldwide museums and galleries including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (USA), the Tate Gallery (UK) and the Centre Pompidou, in Paris (F). The Várfok Gallery is proud to be her only European gallery. We admire enjoying a personal relationship with her and having the biggest available collection of her works in Europe.
The connection between the legendary artist and the Gallery came through Endre Rozsda, who was a close friend of Gilot. Rozsda who was a surrealist artist under the wing of André Breton, has distinctive playful and lively compositions that should also not be missed from this year’s gallery selection.
Exhibited on the Várfok Gallery stand will also be Franyo Aatoth’s latest expressive calligraphic pieces, the abstract paintings of the versatile artist and performer János Szirtes, the repetitive, meditative dot-compositions of Károly Keserü as well as the philosophical paintings of Róbert Várady.
The younger generation will be represented by three brilliantly skilled artists: Anna Nemes’s highly sensitive, water colour-esq nudes, Máté Orr’s latest surreal, baroque compositions and Kata Gaál’s highly individual works made by collage and montage techniques.
We look forward to welcoming you all at the Várfok Gallery’s Nr. E11 stand in Hall 2.
