About the works

Munkácsy and Palladium Prizes recipient László Szotyory has been the member of Várfok Gallery’s artists circle nearly from the beginnings. His paintings realised with soft and exeptional lightness and subtle colours have two characteristic source of inspiration: one is the world of the USA and the other is the „Mediterraneum”. Parks, Italian gardens, giant creatures and antique buildings appear on his pictures which are created by pastel-like colours and wispy layers that often let the spectator discover the rough canvas under the paint. Due to the effects of the classical landscapes, the everyday life scenes and simple motives – cars, planes – rise above the casual meaning, they emerge from the linear dimension and by the timelines and interactions they become eternal values. The atmosphere of his paintings is strange, mysterious, and often dream-like.
