About the works

Máté Orr graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts’ Painting Department in 2011, which was followed by his artistic debut in a series of Hungarian solo and group exhibitions. Despite his young age, Orr’s paintings have been shown in several art fairs and exhibitions internationally, including Monaco, South-Korea, China, Slovakia and the United Kingdom. Orr’s works are characterised by a unique artistic style and self-confidence and can be readily identified because of their particular and peculiar nature. Contrasts of the grotesque and harmonious, real and symbolic, realistically detailed and simplified are present within his paintings. Indoor scenes, often static or resembling a still life,  have elements which reflect Flemish Renaissance interiors, the hybrid characters of Hieronymus Bosch and the works of 20th century French Surrealists. Orr’s paintings can be interpreted as an intriguing, exciting  and captivating combination of reality together with  the artist’s fantasies, desires and imagination.
